Commissioners’ Briefing

There will be a commissioners’ briefing tomorrow at 12:00 noon (September 6, 2005) on the 8th floor of the Municipal Building to update the commissioners on the response efforts to the Patients/Incident Displaced Persons relocation to the Augusta area.

ECHD Medical Reserve Corps Represented at National Meeting

Preston Harpe and Gary Zgutowicz, from the East Central Health District (ECHD), joined nearly 400 Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) leaders from across the country at the third annual MRC National Leadership Conference, in San Francisco, on April 20-22, 2005.

The Department of Human Resources Promotes Asthma Awareness Month in May

May has been designated as Asthma Awareness Month and May 3rd as World Asthma Day. Each May, the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) works to raise awareness of asthma in Georgia. DHR through the East Central Health District (ECHD) has partnered with the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) and The Neighborhood Improvement Project, Inc. to sponsor an Asthma Health Day Forum on May 7, 2005 at the MCG Alumni Center.

Butts Being Kicked On “KICK BUTTS DAY”

On Saturday, April 16, 2005 the East Central Health District’s Tobacco Use Prevention program is inviting everyone to celebrate Kick Butts Day at the 3rd Annual Tobacco-Free Jamboree.

Cluster of Shigellosis Reported in Jenkins County

Jenkins County Health Department has reported, by laboratory confirmation, four school age children and one child less than 3 years old with Shigella bacteria. Shigellosis is a bacteria infection affecting the intestinal tract.

The East Central Health District Conducts Full-Scale Exercise

THIS IS ONLY A DRILL. The East Central Health District (ECHD) will be conducting a full-scale exercise on March 19, 2005 in Glascock and Emanuel Counties to test/evaluate operational procedures and policies as it relates to responding to terrorism incidents.
